GradeBook Setup Checklist

Deadlines: are published and posted by administration. It is essential that you meet the due dates. If you are unsure of the deadlines, please check with your administrator or administrator secretary.

Grades 2-5

Grade Setup In PowerTeacher Gradebook:
  • ensure that you use Category Weights and not Total Points.
  • each category is weighted and not set to 0

Assignments in PowerTeacher Gradebook:
  • Score Type should be set to Percentages (Official Nido requirement)
  • If you use Points, then there you need to be aware of:
    • Assignment size. Different point totals for assignments imply different weights for those assignments. For example, an assignment worth 100 points is worth 10 times that of an assignment worth 10 points, rendering the second one nearly worthless.
    • Double weighting. Many teachers use weighted categories and then weigh individual assignments inside the categories as well. Not only does this make understanding the grade very difficult for parents, but PowerSchool hates this.
    • What parents see. Although an assignment's weight or category weight is clear to the teacher when they use GradeBook, these values do not show up when a parent accesses PowerSchool. So if a parent calculates a grade based on the points they see, it will almost certainly be different from the grade that is shown. This alarms parents. So we need a way to display this information.
